This is the fifth year for the training course, which has to date trained and supported nearly 100 professionals working in the field of GBV in humanitarian contexts (and representing a diverse mix of INGO, NGO, CBO, UN, government and academic entities).  As with past years, the course will be held in beautiful and historical Ghent, Belgium from 7-18 November 2011.  It is a residential course, and all participants will be expected to pay a registration fee in addition to their travel and related expenses.  The deadline for all applications is 15 July 2011.  Late applications will not be considered.  Kindly refer to the attached announcement and application for further details.

Pre-testing helps ensure that your target audiences will understand, relate to, and act
on your call to action. Please join us to learn about methods and approaches for pre-testing draft messages and materials. The presentation will include an overview of why pre-testing with your target audience is
important, the types of questions that can be answered through pre-testing, and factors to consider when selecting your method. We will also provide an overview of some of the most common methods for pre-testing – including focus groups, in-depth interviews, and central location intercept interviews – and the pros and cons of each approach.

What Works for Women and Girls: Evidence for HIV and AIDS Interventions synthesizes the vast research literature on program interventions (through the end of 2009) to provide clear evidence of what works and what seems most promising for women and girls that improve a range of HIV outcomes. Intended for policymakers, program managers, civil society, implementing partners, and donors, the website www.whatworksforwomen.org includes searchable findings from over 450 interventions in 90 countries and is also available as a downloadable document. What Works for Women and Girls is currently a project of the Public Health Institute.

Website authors Karen Hardee, Visiting Senior Fellow, PRB; Jill Gay, President, J. Gay Associates; and Melanie Croce-Galis, President, Global Artemis Consulting answer questions about interventions related to HIV and AIDS programming and the evidence base needed for those designing policies and programs for women and girls. Questions can be pre-submitted in advance of the online discussion.
