Making the Connection: Sexual Health Promotion & Sexual Violence Prevention

In this webinar, participants will learn how to boost and sustain their prevention work by connecting and integrating with existing sexual health education efforts.  Violence preventionists can make the most of current national research, the Healthy Youth Act, and Department of Health Guidelines.  We will discuss best practices related to STD and teen pregnancy prevention and sexual violence prevention.  Preventionists will leave this webinar being able to make the case for why partnerships with sexual health are critical, and how to use this information to get into schools and communities.

Understanding and Addressing GBV in Development

This eight week course empowers participants to:

• Become aware of the prevalence and nature of GBV specifically against women and the barrier it poses to all development initiatives.

• Understand the relationship between gender inequality and GBV and how GBV threatens both human rights and poverty reduction strategies.

• Appreciate the direct and indirect costs of GBV in terms of health, HIV and AIDS, education, livelihoods and participation at both micro and macro levels.

• Understand best practice in relation to GBV prevention and response programming.

• Analyse internal organisational ethics and policy in relation to gender inequality and GBV.

• To address key ethical, methodological and practical challenges in relation to GBV research, monitoring & evaluation and engaging men.

Training course: Children under ten years old and domestic violence

This course will look at basic domestic violence theory and specifically how children under ten years old are affected. Practical guidance for practitioners will be given on working with schools, how to create a safety plan with children and good practice examples will be considered.  The course will comprise of interactive activities, group discussions and the use of films to illustrate key topics.

Get Moving! A Personal and Organizational Journey

The Get Moving! course at the Violence Prevention Learning Center aims to equip participants with knowledge of the foundational concepts of Get Moving! and skills for facilitating the process within their own organizations. Selected organizations will commit to a one-year partnership with the GBV Prevention Network/ Raising Voices. The partnership includes course participation, follow-up technical assistance, and mutual commitment to the process. Currently over 10 organizations are feeling the benefits of Get Moving! around the region;  we are calling upon more organizations to join us on this journey.

Powerful Partnerships 20 Years of the Violence Against Women Act and the Path Ahead

Against Domestic Violence will cohost this conference, which highlights the power of partnerships in working
to end gender violence.

The conference will include a variety of workshops, roundtables, panel presentations, and poster sessions
integrating research and practice. Proposals are invited on, but not limited to, the topics listed on the reverse
side. We particularly encourage proposals that model and cultivate effective collaborations including those
among researchers, advocates, and youth leaders.
