Call for Applications: Training Course: Research Methods Course in Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV, and Gender-based Violence

Day(s): from 22/Feb to 02/Mar

The objectives of this course are to:

  • strengthen the research capabilities of participants and increase research capacity in the African region;
    provide skills in research methodology allowing participants to initiate research, participate in research, and critically appraise research findings; 
  • familiarize participants with the major sexual and reproductive health/HIV issues affecting the African region; and
  • create a network of alumni to facilitate information exchange and research collaboration in the African region.

The course will run in mid-August 2012 (exact dates to be released shortly) for three weeks in Johannesburg, South Africa. Please note that daily attendance is compulsory.

The minimum criteria to apply:

  •  A medical degree as a minimum level of acceptance or relevant other first degree, at good honors level;
    • Experience in the field of sexual and reproductive health/HIV;
    • Applicant is conducting research or planning to conduct research in the area of sexual and reproductive health/HIV; and
    • Willingness and ability to apply knowledge in the applicant's current work situation and future career.
    • Applicants in possession of a master's in public health are considered to be overqualified and therefore are not eligible to apply.

The closing date for applications is 2 March 2012. Late applications cannot be accepted.

Second World Conference of Women’s Shelters

The 2nd World Conference of Women’s Shelters (WCWS) will bring together shelter advocates and grassroots activists working to end violence against women to discuss how they can support and learn from each other. Unlike many other conferences, WCWS is a peer-to-peer conference, specifically for women and men who work directly with and provide services to victims of violence.

Safety 2012 World Conference

Safety 2012 is the 11th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion. The conference is held biennially under the auspices of the World Health Organization. It brings together the world's leading injury prevention and safety researchers, practitioners and advocates, to build our knowledge and strengthen the fields of injury prevention and safety promotion worldwide.

Safety 2012 is organised by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand (SCFNZ), and the University of Otago's Injury Prevention Research Unit (IPRU). There are also numerous partners and colleagues in New Zealand, Australia, and internationally who are contributing to the planning and success of the conference.
