Applications for Training Course on Coordination of Multi-Sectoral Response to Gender-Based Violence in Humanitarian Settings (UNFPA and University of Ghent)

This is the fifth year for the training course, which has to date trained and supported nearly 100 professionals working in the field of GBV in humanitarian contexts (and representing a diverse mix of INGO, NGO, CBO, UN, government and academic entities).  As with past years, the course will be held in beautiful and historical Ghent, Belgium from 7-18 November 2011.  It is a residential course, and all participants will be expected to pay a registration fee in addition to their travel and related expenses.  The deadline for all applications is 15 July 2011.  Late applications will not be considered.  Kindly refer to the attached announcement and application for further details.

Safeguarding Against Forced Marriage and so called Honour-based Violence

The course by Against Violence and Abuse (AVA) and Imkaan in the United Kingdom, is designed to increase participants' knowledge and awareness of forced marriage, so called 'Honour Based Violence' and to offer space for reflection on current and future work approaches in order to operate within a good practice framework.

The course looks at the overlapping issues of domestic violence, patriarchy, power and control and examines the impact of these. The course involves skill development on practice based issues such as safeguarding children and young people, safety planning and risk assessment, as well as providing an oversight of the relevant legislation, policies and procedures for staff working with women fleeing forced marriage or so called 'Honour Based Violence'.

The course is aimed at anyone working in environments where these issues may be presented including staff from schools, colleges, refuges, domestic violence projects, advice centres, health, social work settings, youth services, connexions and violence against women projects.
