Most formal and some informal justice mechanisms have record keeping systems that produce a paper trail that may be reviewed to assess how cases of violence against women have been handled. Review of reports by other entities, such as partner non-governmental organizations, as well as media reports can also provide valuable information for an appraisal. For example, see USAID’s Egypt Violence Against Women Study, which is a literature review that summarizes and analyzes existing documentation.
