Before collecting data, all participants must be informed of the purpose of the exercise, the risks that they face due to their participation, and the benefits (including any monetary or in-kind compensation) they can expect to receive as a result of their participation. This process is particularly important for vulnerable populations such as refugees and displaced persons. It is important to work directly with members of the affected community to ensure that consent statements are simple to understand and explicitly communicate that participation in the data collection will not affect the respondent’s ability to receive humanitarian aid.
