Ni Santas, Ni Putas: The impact of external and internalized misogyny on Latina survivors

Día (s): 6

According to the Sexual Assault Among Latinas (SALAS) study published in 2010, only 3.3 % of Latinas utilized some type of victim assistance service. This webinar will review rape culture manifestations within some Latino communities and how cultural issues, gender double standards, rape myths, and self-blame can all impede survivor help-seeking. It will also address the role that Latina and Latino stereotypes play in victim blaming and how the current climate of Latinx demonization and othering is impacting both Latina survivor identification with the #MeToo / #YoTambien movement, and the victim advocacy efforts of bilingual victim advocates.

Presented by Laura Zarate, Founding Executive Director of Arte Sana, Chicana Victim Advocate and Bilingual Training Specialist
